I guess I should mention that I'm not exactly the typical scout... about a year ago when I was selling cookies at a booth in front of our local Safeway, I started to read the nutritional information printed in small text on the side of each box. What horrors I discovered there! I realized that selling junk food to the masses was not the way I wanted to raise money, and I refused to encourage American obesity and consumption. So, instead of staying with my troop in front of grocery stores and outside of banks, I decided to start my own fundraising technique. My goal is to promote health and happiness by selling fresh fruit rather than artificial sweets in neighborhoods. While the other scouts are out earning badges for cookie sales, I go door to door and deliver healthy snacks. Even though I was initially shunned for turning against the most popular GS commodity, my troop leader has grown to appreciate my efforts, and I've received awards for the program.
Of course, I do still love camping, friendship bracelets, and making s'mores, but I try to stray from being a "cookie cutter" girl scout (heh, get the pun?).
If any readers out there are interested in buying some fruit, feel free to contact me and I'll put you down on an order form!
