Some of my best memories are from the countless road trips I have taken with my mom over school vacations and during the summer. We've traveled up and down the California coast, stopping for delicious junk food, taking snap shots, and swimming in less than optimal beach weather. I've gotten so many sun burns and leg cramps from sitting in a car for so long but those minor discomforts can't even begin to detract from how happy I felt sitting next to her and being on the go.
When I was around nine she took me to Disneyland and Venice beach. We took a plane down south and stayed in a hotel by ourselves. That was my first time ever going to Disneyland, and it was just as magical as any kid would describe it. She talked me into going on the ever-so-frightening Matterhorn and held onto me tight. We went to Venice and walked around the street shops, smiling at all the vendors and buying frivolous keepsakes like sarongs and beach towels. Our hotel had a pool that wasn't anything special and yet I distinctly remember going swimming and having a blast. I guess positive moments, however insignificant, can have that kind of lasting impression.
Since that trip we've gotten detained in Tijuana, played arcade games in Santa Monica, and gotten car sick driving through twisty forest roads. When I'm here at school I constantly find myself reminiscing for these road trips and anxiously awaiting the summer when I get to be with her again. There are so many places that I never would have seen or been to if it weren't for her crazy adventuresome spirit. I feel extremely blessed to have such a wonderful tour guide in my life, and I can't wait to have more happy moments with her in just two short months.
