My favorite project from today was Natalie's "documentary" of UCSB student life. I remember talking to her during small group brainstorming and her original ideas were cool, but her ultimate video documentation and explorer persona were brilliant. I loved her Australian accent and her safari costume, and you could tell she improvised little quirks and props to make her role seem even more convincing and ridiculous. It cracked me up to see her hiding in bushes and filming the freshmen in the dining commons like they were some animal in captivity. I thought her project was creative and entertaining, and I'm glad she ended up picking this persona.
I'm usually really impressed by Michael's work and documentation, which is why today was kind of a let down. I didn't really understand the point of his project, and to be honest it seemed very last minute. There's so much he could have done with a futuristic persona (I mean, his alien video was amazing, so he obviously knows how to make up random sci-fi plot lines), and his references were totally lost on me. I would have liked to see him craft a different way of warning people of an impending invasion other than flyers that are easy to make/rip down. He's done a great job all quarter, so I'm not trying to pick apart this one project, but I guess I just expected more because of his previous work.
