Puns & Props

This week we had two assignments to document. The first was to create a "visual pun". Kip gave examples of students putting their fist between slices of bread and calling it a knuckle sandwich, and hanging strips of bacon from a clothes line and calling it a hog wash. While I love puns and sarcasm and all forms of witty banter, I struggled to come up with something original. Google didn't help either. Finally I decided on something simple. I looked up instructions for how to make a paper boat (I never did learn origami or how to make fortune tellers) and then covered it with various coupons in order to create... a "Sale Boat". I thought it was a cute idea, but I couldn't really gage a reaction from my peers because Darcey guessed what it was so quickly. Plus, who can compete with "Sexy Time"? Even though my project was a little less racy than a clock in a thong, I'm still happy with the final product.

Our second assignment was to bring in a random prop and then act out an informercial in groups. I looked around my room for something interesting and ended up grabbing a flashlight that I brought to the dorms but have yet to use. My group spent a while playing with all the adjustment settings and suggesting its use as an alien beam or light to catch night time attackers. We also had to use a helmet, a glove, a small toilet paper roll, a screen, and a santa on a wire... In the end we created a "masculine purse" (AKA an upside down helmet) complete with various tools manly men would need throughout the day. I think kits were a pretty popular option for most groups considering the absurdity of some of the props. Usually acting would freak me out, but everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves so much it was hard to get stage fright.
