Just giving a little shout out to Miss Dana on her 19th birthday! As I write this I'm in the FT kitchen waiting for her red velvet cupcakes to cool down so I can decorate and then deliver them to my unsuspecting friend... it's probably not very nice of me to be hiding out here while she's in the room alone, but I promise the taste will make up for it!
Mmm... Red Velvet :)
I love birthdays. Of course my own because only a few strange people don't like getting some extra love and appreciation one day every year, but I love celebrating other people's birthdays too. I think the little things are what make friendships and relationships great, and being able to give back to someone who means something to you is fun. Baking cakes, buying balloons, and leaving post it notes around the room with silly messages are all simple things, and yet they bring so much joy to both the giver and receiver. I like knowing that something I did brought a smile to someone's face. That's why I'm excited for Friday's "random act of kindness" post. I'm a sap. I get a kick out of being randomly helpful or nice to strangers or even just my friends and family who could always use another reminder of how much I think they rock.
I'm also being a bit self-serving here. Baking has always been a kind of therapeutic relief for me. I get overly stressed during midterms and I KNOW that it would be rational to calm down and study with a level head but I seem incapable of such control. Making cookies or cupcakes or even just eating dessert (probably not my best habit...) always makes me feel warm inside. It reminds me of home. So I guess these cupcakes are helping my sanity and celebrating Dana's day of birth. Sweet deal.
