First Day of Class

I've probably laughed more in one Art 7A lecture than I have in any of my other classes combined. I can't even remember the last time I walked out of an afternoon class still thinking about the subject matter instead of "When can I eat dinner?" or "Ugh, I have to bike back to FT." When my roommate asked how class went I think my excessive use of the word awesome left her a little concerned for my sanity. And I'm not trying to be a suck up—I legitimately enjoyed Kip's first class. After one day I've already started to think about art in a new way, even if that just means overanalyzing everything I see on YouTube.

I've always loved art. My parents never had to drag me to a museum or coerce me into picking up photography. I use photoshop frequently and yet I rarely stop to think about how many photos are staged, manipulated or biased even before the artist takes a frame. I make fun of Rebecca Black or Alexandra Wallace without thinking about why such videos are all over my Facebook. I think this class is really going to help me develop my skills as an artist as well as a participant in culture and society as a whole. Understanding the influence of media on the meaning of art or the further implications of pop culture sensations will change my perception of our world and make me more informed/involved.
